The Baracuta jacket, or the G9 as it's officially known, is one of the most iconic pieces of clothing ever created, thanks to likes of Steve McQueen, Elvis and Frank Sinatra who wore it with style. The jacket was originally created back in 1937 in Manchester by a man named John Miller, and the jacket is still made today to the same specifications.

Extract from our Classic Motorcycle Collection catalogue MA18 - September 2010

This jacket has been replicated and copied more often than the seven times table, but even though we’ve dabbled with some of these lookalikes in the past, there is, for us, just one original, and this is it.

The background is that this jacket was created in Britain in the thirties. It became a massive hit in the fifties and sixties in America and was adopted by all the major stars of the day; people like Presley, Peck and Dean. Ryan O’Neal, whose character in the TV series, Peyton Place, was called Rodney Harrington gave the jacket its popular name.

Even today, it’s a jacket you’ll see being worn by those in the know. Look out for it and you’ll see what we mean. Of course, as McQueen fans, we reckon nobody wore it more cooly than the King of Cool. He was photographed wearing it in tan by his pal William Claxton, but he also wore it in other colours, perhaps most famously in blue in The Thomas Crown Affair.
