As part of their McQueen clothing collection, Barbour has produced a pair of jeans which, on the face of it, seems dangerous because Steve was famously known to have worn both Wranglers and Levi’s.

But Barbour has an angle on Steve’s jeans, because he was often seen to wear a pair of what are known as ‘selvedge’ jeans.

Now the world of denim has a sub-culture all of its own; it can all get very complicated and is way beyond our understanding, but selvedge denim is highly valued and rather distinctive.

Basically, this is a type of denim which forms a clean natural edge that does not unravel. Typically, these edges will be located along the outer seam, making it visible when the bottom edge is turned up.

Barbour has modelled their jeans on a pair that McQueen was photographed in, and to give them that authentic feel, they are presented with a vintage wash.

They’re a summer weight and have a great straight 1960s’ style leg cut.
