In a battle of the diecast heavyweights, AUTOart and Kyosho are going head-to-head, both releasing1:18 replicas of the mind-blowing Nissan GTR.
First shown at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, the GTR R35 has been available in Japan ever since and became available in Europe towards the end of 2008.
The GTR takes over the helm as Nissan’s high-performance coupé. But, when it was originally announced, not everybody was enthusiastic. A twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 in a car burdened with four seats, airbags and a boot may not sound like the sort of car that could bring the world to its knees.
But as the saying goes, it’s not the size of the dog in the fight that’s important, but the size of the fight in the dog. Giving out around 480bhp, tests have proved it’ll cover 60mph in as little as 3.2 seconds, the same as a Ferrari Enzo. And the top speed is 195mph, putting it close to the lighter, more powerful F430 Scuderia.
The GTR’s handling is even more impressive. As the engine is at the front, the gearbox is mounted at the back, for near-perfect weight balance. Nissan is also being innovative, filling the tyres with nitrogen instead of air.
But the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and the 14-mile Nurburgring has been covered by the GTR in seven minutes, 29 seconds. The Bugatti Veyron was 11 seconds slower! So, with its astonishing handling and speed, you’d expect the price tag to be just as shocking. It is; at just £55,000, it is shockingly cheaper than the bigger guns!
Currently, AUTOart’s silver replica is in stock, while we are waiting for restocks of the white version. With AUTOart, however, restocks can take as long to come through as brand new subjects!
Kyosho’s black version has already been released and has sold out completely, while we are still waiting for its silver colourway. The Kyosho GTRs cost £10 more, but seem to stack up pretty evenly against AUTOart’s offering.
