The Espada is a car that we’ve been asking a number of manufacturers to replicate in recent years. Ironically, we didn’t talk to AUTOart as they aren’t usually interested in the opinions of retailers. Nonetheless, we are delighted that they have decided to produce the Espada. It’s one of our favourite Lamborghinis.

The Espada was never a candidate for fastest car in the world although, when it was launched in 1968, its 150mph+ performance was still pretty impressive. And, of course, not everybody fell in love with its looks although, to us, looking back, it is a quintessential piece of early seventies design. Ungainly but actually rather striking, and if it is true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, we can confidently say that it’s a beautiful car!

But what it was, beyond doubt, was a superlative Grand Tourer which could whisk four people across continents in great comfort and at great speed. In total, some 1217 Espadas were built which, at the time, made it one of the company’s most successful products.

The Espada is probably the forgotten Lamborghini, but we here at Diecast Legends love it. With its 4 litre, V12 putting out 325 bhp, it’s a genuine piece of exotica. And it’s a car that certainly has presence. Turn up in one and you won’t be forgotten; that’s for sure.

The silver car has already sold out, but, as is the way with AUTOart, we are waiting for an unspecified restock date. Blue is the next colour due to be released.
