Jorge put that right by taking four wins in 2009. In fact, after 12 rounds of the championship, he was still only 25 points behind Rossi in the standings. So worried was Valentino about his upstart young team-mate that towards the end of the year he threatened to leave Yamaha if they dared to retain Lorenzo into 2011! With Rossi now going to Ducati, it would seem that Yamaha would, perhaps, prefer to hang on to Lorenzo, the boy wonder, over Valentino. Lorenzo currently seems a shoe-in for this year’s world title, which will instantly make his signed model bikes extremely sought after.
