Valentino Rossi; still the best, but ‘those pesky kids’ are making life harder and harder for him! In the first five races of 2009 Valentino took just one victory, at Jerez, whilst team-mate Lorenzo and Ducati’s Casey Stoner won two races each. Rossi then won four of the next six races on the YZR-M1 to seize the initiative in the championship as Lorenzo suffered a couple of falls and Stoner took a few races out to recover from his fatigue illness. Rossi’s nasty crash at Indianapolis brought Lorenzo back into the hunt, before he walked away with the next race in his own back yard at San Marino. The last four races were again shared out by young guns Lorenzo, Stoner and Pedrosa, but decent points finishes allowed Rossi to clinch the championship at the penultimate round in Malaysia. It was his ninth world crown. As ever, the Minichamps Yamaha will include removable fairing panels to reveal the engine and mechanicals in all their glory, real rubber tyres, and so on and so forth.
