Minichamps has announced 1:12 scale diecast model of Barry Sheene's 1976 #7 Suzuki RG500, on which he won his first 500cc World Championship. Barry Sheene, of course, is one of the most popular motorcycle racers of all time. He won his first title in 1976 riding a Suzuki RG500. Going into that season, Barry didn’t have a title to his name. He knew he had to win in 1976, with his sky high media profile only intensifying the pressure. Luckily, it was one of those years when everything went his way.Sheene won the first three rounds in Italy, France and Austria. After sitting out the Isle of Man, he won again in Holland, finished runner-up in Belgium, and clinched the title in style after taking victory in Sweden. Eight years of hard work, international travel, injury and pain had finally paid off. In 1977 Barry and the Suzuki RG500 (P770007) were even more dominant than he had been the year before, with six victories from 11 races, to comfortably take the title with 107 points to Canadian Steve Baker’s 80.
