It seems compulsory these days that a Formula One team has to score a 1-2 on the day that it scores its first Grand Prix win! It happened to Jordan, BMW and Brawn, and most recently, of course, to Red Bull.
The 2009 Chinese Grand Prix was definitely a slow burner, with the first seven laps run behind the Safety Car because of the wet conditions. Once the racing finally got underway, though, the race was a corker, with more overtaking manoeuvres and spins than we have seen in an entire season in recent times!
Through it all Sebastian Vettel calmly splashed his way to his second Grand Prix win, and Red Bull’s first. After battling with Jenson Button’s Brawn earlier on, Mark Webber came through to make it a 1-2 for one of the most popular teams on the grid.
And Minichamps, being as quick as ever (at least with its announcements, if not its releases!) immediately confirmed some 1:43 and 1:18 specials from the race to commemorate the achievement. All will be limited editions and will come with wet tyres fitted.
Most exciting, however, is that Sebastian will be signing his 1:18 China car just for us. Unfortunately, he seems to be the only top F1 driver these days who is keen to give something back to his fans by signing for us. Fortunately, he is the hottest property on the grid right now. Who knows what this might be worth in a few years time?
