Extract from our Formula 1 catalogue BR68 – June 2009
Even 15 years after the death of Ayrton Senna, Minichamps’ 1:18 replicas of his Formula One cars are still among our best sellers.
Our stock of Senna cars constantly changes; there can be a sudden rush on a car, which can sometimes mean a wait of several months (or in some cases even years) before we see a new delivery.
On our shelves at the moment are Ayrton’s first two Lotuses, his 1993 McLaren, and his final F1 car, the Williams FW16. He famously scored his first Grand Prix win in the 97T in appalling conditions in Portugal in 1985, and went on to score another win in it at Spa. 1986 saw another two wins, this time at the wheel of the 98T.
The McLaren MP4/8 is the car that he had perhaps his finest moment in, going from fifth place to first on the opening lap of the 1993 European Grand Prix at Donington.
The Williams is sadly the car that Ayrton will forever be associated with. He only started three Grands Prix in it, but fittingly was on pole position for each one of them.
Once these go, it could be another long wait before we are supplied with restocks.
