Do you remember all those years ago (well, August 2006!) when Jenson Button won his first Grand Prix, in Hungary?
Minichamps quickly announced a ‘First Win’ special, and we quipped at the time that ‘it’s conceivable that he might even score another victory by the time the model comes out’. Talk about uncanny!
Almost three years later Jenson scored his second, third and fourth Grand Prix victories, and then the 1:43 replica showed up.
At 7,344 pieces, the limited edition did seem a little on the high side, but this did not deter collectors and it was a sell-out within just a couple of weeks of its release.
Since then, of course, Jenson has gone on to chalk up his fifth, sixth and seventh Grand Prix wins! We expect to see the 1:18 ‘First Win’ special during the summer, but this also has the potential to sell out very quickly, given the hype surrounding Jenson right now, as he seems almost certain to become the most unexpected World Champion in Formula One history!
As with the 1:43 special, the 1:18 example will come with a separate standing driver figure, and will be a limited edition, although as ever, we will not know the exact quantity until it is released.
Given how quickly the 7,344 examples of the 1:43 version sold out though, you’d best not wait too long before putting your name down for this one!
