We were delighted when Minichamps announced a 1:18 replica of this year’s Le Mans winning Peugeot 908 straight after the race, and even more excited when we reached an agreement with the three victorious drivers to sign it for us!
2007 had been a learning experience for Peugeot, while 2008 saw the French squad only just miss out on victory to rivals Audi. In 2009, it was time to deliver. And deliver Peugeot certainly did. There were four 908s in the top five of the grid, with the #9 car actually slowest of them in fifth place. This was unofficially the ‘tortoise’ car to the three ‘hares’ ahead.
But within the first hour two of the hares had driven into each other in the pit lane, removing them from contention, while a long pit stop halfway through the race saw the #8 car finish a lap behind its winning #9 team-mate. Audi’s new R15s were completely trounced. And so it was that the safe pairs of hands of David Brabham, Alexander Wurz and Marc Gene took victory in the 77th running of the endurance classic.
As ever, timings are difficult to predict at this point. Theoretically, it should just be a case of Minichamps respraying and redecalling an existing mould, but that logic hasn’t always worked in the past! As well as our exclusive signed #9 car, all four 2009 Le Mans Peugeot 908s will of course also be available unsigned.
