McLaren F1 GTR Presentation Car - 1:43
HPI has recently released four 1:43 diecast replicas of the McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail. In 1995 and 1996 the McLaren F1 GTR was the car to beat in the BPR series, but when the BPR became the FIA GT Championship in 1997, McLaren faced opposition from big manufacturers such as Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan. And unlike McLaren, who had developed the F1 GTR from a road car, they were building purpose-built racing cars, with the derived road cars being made for homologation only. In order for the British marque’s challenger to remain competitive against the likes of the Porsche 911 GT1 and the Mercedes CLK-GTR, radical modifications needed to be made. The bodywork was completely redesigned with the specific aim of maximising downforce. The nose and tail were lengthened, and the wheel arches and rear wing were widened. A new X-trac sequential gearbox was also installed. Of the four McLaren F1 GTR replicas HPI has released, the presentation car (the one with the livery used at its launch) is the most interesting, as it hasn’t been made before. There is also an orange colourway, a plain white car, and a rather unusual polished metal version. Whichever HPI 1:43 McLaren F1 GTR you choose, it’s guaranteed to look fantastic in your collection!
