Land Rover 1948 Green 1:18
The Land Rover was created by brothers Maurice and Spencer Wilks. Inspired by the wartime Willys jeep, it was intended as a stop gap model, and because steel was in short supply they used aluminium wherever they could. Within a year, it was outselling everything in the Rover range and, even today, the latest Defender is clearly a direct descendant of the post war vehicle. ‘HUE 166’ (Huey) spent many years on a Warwickshire farm but was eventually bought back by Land Rover and restored to its original condition. Today it takes pride of place in the Gaydon Motor Museum. Minichamps have actually been advised by an expert in Germany who owns a collection of 16 Series 1 Land Rovers! In fact, they have ascertained that, in a number of areas, the Gaydon car has not been restored to its original state. Apparently, the exhaust exit is wrong and some of the badging is not as it should be. We are in no position to argue. The bottom line, however, is that Minichamps is taking this one seriously.
