Brough Superior SS100 1932 1:6
Minichamps’ most popular 1:12 motorcycle subject of recent years has been its T.E. Lawrence Brough Superior SS100. His last journey on one was on 19th May 1935. The facts are that he had an accident that involved two boy pedal-cyclists. Conspiracy theories abound and one witness claimed to have seen a black car in the vicinity. This led to claims of an assassination, but most authorities dismiss such suggestions. The coroner brought in a verdict of accidental death, pointing out that Mr. Shaw (Lawrence’s actual surname) must have been travelling at a very fast speed. This was almost certainly the case. Lawrence loved speed and his Brough was capable of more than 100mph. The accident occurred just yards from his game-keeper’s cottage at Clouds Hill, a mile north of the Bovington military camp. The 1:12 replica remains the most complicated motorcycle subject ever attempted by Minichamps, so the 1:6 scale bike will be even more impressive. There are also two figures, which depict Lawrence in his enlisted man’s RAF uniform. The 1:12 figure is under code P321350, and the 1:6 under code PG321350. These exquisite pieces will all serve as fitting tributes to both George Brough’s superior motorcycles and, of course, to the bike’s most famous owner, the redoubtable Lawrence of Arabia.
